Outside: Grandeur
On the Lange Voorhout in The Hague, you can visit the yearly, summertime, open air exhibition of sculpture. The Hague Sculpture and Museum Beelden aan Zee present a large exhibition of contemporary French sculpture from 6 June to 31 August, titled Grandeur.
Monumental artwork will be displayed on the Lange Voorhout in The Hague’s city centre and other satellite locations. Some 25 contemporary artists who make monumental works were chosen for the exhibition of 2014, of contemporary French sculpture on the Lange Voorhout. The exhibition offers an overview of large-sized art in public spaces today in France.
Featured artists include Adel Abdessemed, Cyrille André, Guillaume Castel, Yuhsin U Chang, Stéphanie Cherpin, Daniel Firman, Vincent Ganivet, Emmanuelle Lainé, Laurent le Deunff, Vincent Mauger, Vincent Olinet, Bruno Peinado, Julien Prévieux, Marie-Hélène Richard and Samuel Yal.
Expertly guided tours of The Hague Sculpture are available throughout the summer in English, Dutch and French. Visit the website for guided tours: rondleidingen.net, with an English page, for more information.
Inside: Grandeur and Modesty
Pulchri Studio is an artist-run gallery, located on the Lange Voorhout, in the beautiful and historic centre of The Hague. Pulchri Studio offers visitors the chance to see and buy an exciting range of paintings, sculptures, photographs and other works of art.
Artists, Pulchri members, show their work in seven different spaces, set over two floors. On average Pulchri Studio hosts 50 exhibitions a year, so there is always something new to see every time you visit!
On June 28, 2014 an exhibition of small art will be opened, “Een beeld van een penning”. Pulchri members in cooperation with the VPK, the Vereniging voor Penningkunst / the Dutch Society for Art Medals will present medallic art. Perhaps you are not familiar with art medals, an art form in The Netherlands of an exceptional high standard. Collecting art medals is often confused with coin collecting, but that confusion should not longer exist after visiting this exhibition.
Admission is free of charge and Pulchri is open six days a week from Tuesday to Sunday from 11.00 till 17.00 hours.

Outside: Modesty
Modesty should also be of importance for the writer of this blog. Sorry, but that’s too hard, because my love for Dutch medallic art is huge ! Being a dealer with that love, I have the urgent need to present art medals, every sunday on the open air Antique and Book market on the Lange Voorhout during summertime.
A special love are the art medals issued by
Pulchri Studio in the 1950 and 1960-ies. Made by important Pulchri members,
such as Albert Termote, Dirk Bus, Bram Roth, Aart van den IJssel, Jan Snoeck
and Rudi Rooijackers.
Those medals are known as Maecenas Penning
Pulchri Studio, and were given to a small group of benefactors of Pulchri.
Once in a while other standholders on the market
will also offer art medals, you could find beautiful French or Belgium art
nouveau medals, historic or commemorative medals, art deco or modern medallic
art.
And because my modesty has completely vanished
during the writing of this blog, I would like to mention my site, with a modest
collection of medallic art:
